The Microsystems Acupuncture Regulatory Working Group (MAcRWG) is a collaboration of the key professional associations and teaching institutions within the UK involved in many different microsystem acupuncture modalities. Since early 2007 this Group has been working together, as part of The Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health regulation programme, to put in place robust systems for voluntary regulation by 2010. It is thought likely that microsystems acupuncture practitioners will ultimately be regulated through the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council..
The importance for the continued development and recognition of these specialist arms of the acupuncture profession (principally auricular acupuncture) within an integrated health environment is paramount, as is the emphasis on providing optimum patient care and safety.
With Statutory Regulation under the Health Professions Council still in an unclear position, but unlikely to include microsystems practitioners, this venture presents a unique opportunity for this profession to secure a future. These are early stages, but with an eighteen-month deadline, the group would like to invite any other relevant bodies to contact l'acupuncture pour maigrir them and get involved as soon as possible.
